Every child is assigned to one of the teachers/caregivers. All
caregivers will interact and provide learning experiences and be involved with
your child. We believe that assigning a principle caregiver for your child will
create a significant relationship and establish a sense of trust for themselves
and the world around them. This primary care giving relationship is not an
exclusive one, but one which all teachers work together as a team to support
each other.
Infant/Toddler
Curriculum for our infant and toddlers is
strongly embedded in our daily care giving routines. Routines such as
diapering/toileting, feeding and napping are used as opportunities to engage in
conversation and one-on-one time to bring children into the experience.
2 year Program
Curriculum for our 2's will center on personal
care routines such as diapering and toilet learning. Children at this age will
also practice sitting and working in small groups. Caregivers will begin to
introduce basic concepts of shapes, letters, animals, sounds, nursery rhymes,
body parts, feelings; & emotions along with colors presented through
stories, songs and simple art experiences.
Preschool, 3 & 4 years
Preschoolers are offered
more structure and opportunities for cooperative learning. Because these groups
of children are beginning to exercise more self-control, teachers are able to
use a developmental curriculum that allows for teacher and student directed
activities.
Every month a different group of letters, numbers, sounds and
shapes are presented in a thematic unit. Children take home a weekly parent
newsletter outlining the concepts that will be taught and activities that can
be done at home with parents to reinforce learning at school.
These groups of children are also offered a sufficient number and
variety of puzzles, blocks, musical instruments, and outdoor activities to
further develop mastery of play and exploration.
Kindergarten, 5 yrs
The kindergarten curriculum at the Academy provide experiences and
activities that help students embark on learning basic skills in the areas of
reading, mathematics, science and social studies. The curriculum is
complimented with field trips, participation in the MDA’s yearly hop-a-thon, and
community service activities.
Play experiences are scheduled throughout the day (for all ages)
so children have the opportunity to interact with different materials and gain
different perspectives about people and places.
Our programs plan for both teacher-directed and child-directed
experiences for our children. Our teachers (caregivers) celebrate in the
discoveries and offer encouragement for the children’s choices while providing
for planned age-appropriate activities to meet developmental challenges. Daily
opportunities for “messy” play/sensory play (water, paint, sand, mud, etc.) are
also provided.
Extra Curricular Activities

Our center offers specialists in music,
swimming, dance, gymnastics, and Karate. Once a week the children are provided
a half hour music class, and parents have the opportunity to sign their
children up for dance (tap and ballet) and/or gymnastics for a reasonable
monthly fee.
